Sleeve Lengths

Standard Sleeve Lengths:

1. Sleeveless:
   • Description: No sleeves at all, leaving the entire shoulder and arm exposed. The armhole edge is finished directly.
   • Garments: Tank tops, camisoles, sundresses, some formal gowns, vests.
   • Style/Season: Ideal for warm weather, layering, or formal evening wear where full arm exposure is desired.
2. Cap Sleeve:
   • Description: Very short, barely extends beyond the shoulder seam, just “capping” or covering the top of the shoulder.
   • Garments: Blouses, dresses, some t-shirts.
   • Style/Season: Feminine, delicate, offers minimal coverage. Good for warm weather or layering under jackets.
3. Short Sleeve:
   • Description: The classic t-shirt length, ending typically around the mid-bicep.
   • Garments: T-shirts, polo shirts, casual button-downs, some blouses and dresses.
   • Style/Season: The most common casual sleeve length, suitable for everyday wear and warmer temperatures.
4. Elbow-Length Sleeve:
   • Description: The sleeve finishes right at or just above the elbow.
   • Garments: Blouses, some t-shirts, dresses, knit tops.
   • Style/Season: Offers more modesty than a short sleeve, can be flattering for those who prefer to cover their upper arms. Good for transitional weather or a slightly more polished casual look.
5. Three-Quarter Sleeve (3/4 Sleeve or Bracelet Sleeve):
   • Description: Ends somewhere between the elbow and the wrist, typically at the forearm or just above the wrist bone (often to allow bracelets to show).
   • Garments: Blouses, sweaters, dresses, jackets.
   • Style/Season: Very versatile. Can feel elegant and chic, suitable for transitional weather, and often considered flattering as it exposes the slimmest part of the arm.
6. Long Sleeve:
   • Description: Extends fully down the arm to the wrist.
   • Garments: Dress shirts, sweaters, blouses, jackets, coats, long-sleeved t-shirts.
   • Style/Season: Provides full coverage and warmth. Essential for cooler weather and formal attire. For dress shirts, the cuff should ideally end right at the wrist bone, slightly covering it when the arm is bent.
7. Extra-Long Sleeve:
   • Description: Exceeds the standard long sleeve length, often covering part of the hand.
   • Garments: Fashion-forward sweaters, some streetwear, oversized tops.
   • Style/Season: A stylistic choice for an oversized, relaxed, or dramatic look, often seen in contemporary fashion.
